Font Embedding and Subsetting

이 콘텐츠는 아직 번역되지 않았습니다.

A PDF can either reference a font by name or embed the font’s data inside the file. Embedding means the document renders the same on any machine, even one that has never seen the font. Subsetting goes further and embeds only the glyphs the document actually uses, which keeps the fidelity without paying for the entire typeface — a document using three characters of a CJK font does not ship megabytes of glyphs it never draws.

A report set in a corporate font, opened on a laptop that does not have it installed. With the font embedded, the report looks exactly as designed. With the font merely referenced, the reader substitutes something else and the headings shift — sometimes enough to break a layout or push content across a page break.
