Convert AVIF to PNG — free, in your browser
Drop your file below. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser — the file never leaves your device, there is no account, no watermark and no size-signup trap.
Supports image/*,.webp,.gif,.bmp,.avif,.svg,.tif,.tiff
PNG is lossless — the quality slider does not apply.
This page converts AVIF files to PNG right in your browser — the file is never uploaded. AVIF is lossy or lossless (transparency support); PNG is lossless (transparency support). Everything below runs on the same encoder your browser ships with, so the result you download is exactly what this page measured.
Converting never adds quality: if the source is a lossy format, that loss is already baked into the pixels and no converter can recover it. What a conversion can do is stop further loss (choosing a lossless target) or shrink the file further (choosing a more efficient codec). The measured table below shows real sizes and timings for a representative sample so you can decide before spending time.
Measured numbers
We publish first-party measurements only where our automated benchmark environment can guarantee the encoder is real (headless Chromium silently falls PNG encoding back to PNG, so we refuse to print invented numbers here). The tool above performs the conversion with your own browser's encoder — its result card shows the true size for your file, which beats any sample statistic anyway.
When AVIF → PNG is the right call
- •The AVIF came from a camera, design tool or pipeline and now needs editing in software that prefers PNG.
- •You need a guaranteed-lossless working copy (for lossless AVIF sources) with alpha intact.
FAQ
Will PNG conversion degrade my AVIF?
No further loss happens — PNG is lossless. If the AVIF itself was encoded lossy, that existing loss stays but nothing new is added.
How big will the PNG be?
Larger than the AVIF, often several times for photographic content. For screenshots and flat graphics the gap is smaller.
Is transparency kept?
Yes, AVIF alpha maps straight into PNG alpha.
