What is it?PDF Text Extractor is a PDFLean AI document tool: Extract all text from PDFs into Markdown.

TL;DR: Extract all text from a PDF into a clean Markdown copy (headings, paragraphs, and tables preserved). Extraction runs on PDFLean's encrypted cloud servers via the Docling engine (requires a free account, cloud-quota billed, deleted within 24 hours, never used for AI training); the optional translation is a separate AI step billed with AI credits.

About this tool

Extract all text from PDFs into one clean Markdown copy. Processing runs on PDFLean's encrypted cloud servers via the Docling structured-extraction engine: it requires a free account, counts against your plan quota, accepts the file over an encrypted channel, and deletes it within 24 hours. The output preserves headings, paragraphs, and tables as Markdown. The workflow is deliberately short: load the file, run the operation, and save the result. Practical limits apply (see the on-page limits); it pairs well with the related tools linked beside this page when one step is not the whole job. Key facts — Processing: cloud (server-side structured extraction); Access: requires a free account and cloud quota; the optional translation step requires AI credits; File limits: see the on-page limits; Privacy: the file is uploaded encrypted and deleted within 24 hours, never used for AI training.

How to use

1

Upload a PDF (sign-in required; extraction counts as one cloud task)

2

Click "Extract text" — the server-side Docling engine extracts the structure

3

Copy to clipboard or download the Markdown file

FAQ

Is my file safe?

Extraction is a cloud process: the file travels over an encrypted channel to the server-side Docling engine, results are kept for 24 hours (one window for every account), originals are deleted right after processing, and files are never used for AI training.

Are there any limits?

Extraction requires a free account and counts against your cloud quota (free tier: 3 cloud tasks per 24 hours); per-file size follows the on-page limits; scans without a text layer go through the server-side OCR pipeline and complex layouts may yield partial output.

Why is the output Markdown?

The server-side Docling engine performs structured extraction: headings, paragraphs, lists, and tables are reconstructed as Markdown so you can paste it straight into an editor or archive it; plain text is right there in the Markdown output.

How accurate is the extraction?

For native text-based PDFs the server reads the embedded text layer with its structure intact; for scans without a text layer, the server-side OCR pipeline does its best. The preview is the source of truth — anything not extracted is honestly left empty.

How do I redact an SSN from a PDF?

Extract the text first, run detection over it, redact the matches, then verify the saved copy — the full sequence (including what to check) is in our guide.

Can I process multiple files in bulk?

A single tool page handles one task at a time; for bulk work use the Batch Processing workflow and add this tool as a step to run a whole set at once.

Is the processed file still editable?

Extracted text can be copied directly to your clipboard or exported as a Markdown file for further editing and archiving in any text editor.
